NYPD - An off-duty NYPD officer - Sgt. Esteban Abreu - shoots would-be mugger in Bronx while he was video-chatting with his son

An off-duty NYPD officer shot a would-be mugger in the Bronx after he and two other assailants accosted the cop Monday morning, officials said.
The attempted robbery happened just before 4 a.m. near Creston Ave. and E. 179th St. in Mount Hope as Sgt. Esteban Abreu video-chatted with his son outside, according to a police source and NBC 4 New York.
Sources said the suspect was struck in the back and taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he is expected to survive.
Abreu was not hurt, but was treated at Bronx Lebanon Hospital for ringing in his ears.
Sources said he fired three rounds his off-duty Glock handgun, striking the suspect once.
The suspects, who ran off east on Echo Place, were described as Hispanic. One, who appeared to be in his 20s, was wearing a red sweater, blue jeans and a white shirt and carrying a gun. The other was armed with a knife and wearing a black jacket.
