A Ramsey County sheriff's deputy accused of assaulting his K9 partner during a training event in Carlton County last summer appears to have reached a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Brett Arthur Berry, 48, is set to appear for a plea hearing at 11 a.m. today in State District Court in Carlton, according to online court records.

Berry in August pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of assaulting a public safety dog and animal cruelty. Attorneys on both sides indicated at the hearing, and at a subsequent October appearance, that they were working toward a plea agreement.
