BMX legend Dave Mirra dead in apparent suicide at age 41
BMX legend Dave Mirra was found dead Thursday in a suicide, police in North Carolina said.
He was 41.
The record-setting pro biker was found sitting in a truck in Greenville around 4 p.m. with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. He was married with two children.
"We mourn the loss today of a great friend and wonderful human being who touched the lives of so many around the world with his gift,” Mayor Allen Thomas said. “He called Greenville, North Carolina home and was as humble a guy talking with kids on a street corner about bikes as he was in his element on the world stage. A young life with so much to offer was taken too soon.”
Mirra reportedly visited with friends in the hours before his suicide. On Instagram Wednesday, he posted a photo of himself boxing, along with the caption, “Fight to win! We all have battles to fight. Never back down. Love you all. #diewithyourbootson.”
