23-year-old Geneva man Michael Szot was sentenced Thursday to 1 year of periodic imprisonment for killing his two Camel Jockey Friends - Sajaad Syed, 21, of Naperville, and Mihirtej Boddupalli, 21, of Lisle
So you get less time when you drunkenly kill two of your friends instead of strangers.... Nice to know!
A 23-year-old Geneva man was sentenced Thursday to 1 year of periodic imprisonment and 4 years of probation for his role in the drownings of two of his friends in a Naperville quarry lake he had driven into in 2014.
Family members of the two victims told the court they did not want to see Michael Szot serve an extended prison term. Under the terms of DuPage Judge Brian Telander's sentence, Szot will be housed in the county jail for a year, but he will be allowed out to attend college, work and give speeches in the community about his ordeal. He must perform 200 hours of community service.
Szot, currently a student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, pleaded guilty in August to aggravated DUI for the deaths of Sajaad Syed, 21, of Naperville, and Mihirtej Boddupalli, 21, of Lisle.
Authorities say Szot was driving at a high rate of speed when his car went through a fence and down a steep, tree-lined embankment near the Aurora Avenue and Eagle Street intersection and into the lake on July 19, 2014.
