Feral Black Buffalo 'barman' gatecrashes South Africa game lodge, checks in for the day - You won't see this at 115 Bourbon Street

Cape Town - An inquisitive buffalo crashed a party at Hlosi Game Lodge close to Paterson in the Eastern Cape on Sunday, 6 March - supposedly looking for an ice cold brandy and coke to fend off the dry heat.

But that's not all. This fabulous buffalo checked into the game lodge like a true diva.

Shane van Moerkerken for Hlosi Game Lodge told Traveller24 the "buffalo spent a few days around the fence line at Hlosi Game Lodge" before checking in.

He wandered around the fence of the lodge at first, and then slipped through a gap in the fence. He went for a drink of water from the swimming pool, tasted the salt water and then decided to take a dip rather.

"The Hlosi team contacted the game reserve vet to ensure the bull was okay and not distressed," van Moerkerken says. "The pool at Hlosi is shallow so the upper half of the bull wasn’t covered by the water and the team kept a close eye on the bull for any signs of distress or discomfort."

The bull proceeded to get out the pool using the steps, but stayed inside the fence of Hlosi and continued to eat grass... And like a true guest enjoying the perks of the lodge on vacation, the buffalo then took an afternoon "nap at Suite number One," van Moerkerken says.

"Guests were kept at a distance and no one approached it. After its nap the bull proceeded to investigate the grounds where he found some shade... in the lodge's cool bar area.

The bull "walked through the door way into the bar area in a curios fashion, but [he was] cautious enough not to bump into anything. He sniffed around for a brief period and then left out the another door without damage to himself or the bar and building."

The unusual guest has since checked out, and has been ushered back into the game reserve grounds.

Photographs showing the massive buffalo awkwardly standing behind the wooden bar of the lodge were posted to social media.

The images were posted to the Hlosi Game Lodge's Facebook page, with the caption, "What else to do on a sweltering day at Hlosi than go for a swim and have a drink at the Hlosi bar??#‎givethatbuffaloabells?" [sic].
