Las Animas County Sheriff's Office deputy Travis Russell killed in rollover crash
TRINIDAD, Colo. - A Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office deputy was killed in a rollover crash Tuesday.
Deputy Travis Russell, 44, was on patrol in Trinidad when he veered across the road, into the lanes in the opposite direction on Stonewall Avenue. Russell's Ford Expedition hit an empty SUV, continued the wrong way and rolled, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Russell was taken to the hospital, but he didn't survive.
CSP investigators said Russell was on-duty, but was not responding to a call at the time of the crash.
Investigators said Russell was wearing his seat belt. The Las Animas County Coroner will determine Russell's cause of death.
