Chicago Police: 25 people shot, 9 fatally, in weekend BLACK violence
At least 25 people were shot across the city over the weekend, leaving nine of them dead, according to police.
The latest homicide happened Sunday night in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired about 9 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Karlov, where they found Stacey Fluckes unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The 17-year-old boy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:26 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 4100 block of West 16th Street.
Sunday afternoon, a 35-year-old man was shot to death in the West Side Austin neighborhood.
Officers found 35-year-old Willie Jones dead in an alley with gunshot wounds to the head and back at 2:33 p.m. after a call of shots fired in the first block of North Lorel, authorities said. He lived in the 5500 block of West Jackson.
Another fatal shooting occurred in the same neighborhood about 7:15 a.m. A 35-year-old man was found dead inside a car with a single gunshot wound to the head, authorities said. His name has not been released.
Two hours earlier, a 23-year-old man was killed in a Little Village drive-by shooting.
Marco Mendez was riding in a vehicle near his home in the 2500 block of South Whipple when someone in a black SUV shot him in the face. The driver took him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:35 a.m., authorities said. Investigators think the shooting was gang-related, police said.
Less than an hour earlier, two people were found shot to death on the Kennedy Expressway on the Northwest Side, according to Illinois State Police.
Crews responded about to the shooting about 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Armitage, where a Chevrolet Tahoe was stopped in the middle of traffic with two Waukegan residents dead inside, state police said.
The 43-year-old driver, Eric L. Taylor; and 36-year-old passenger, Camille C. Cooley each suffered head wounds, police said. A handgun was found near the driver, but police have not identified a shooter.
