Two people were shot to death on the Kennedy Expressway early Sunday on the Northwest Side, according to Illinois State Police.

Crews responded about 4 a.m. to the shooting in the northbound lanes of the expressway north of Armitage Avenue, state police said.

A silver Chevrolet Tahoe had stopped on the expressway, where the male driver and a female passenger were each found dead with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. Their ages weren’t immediately known.

A handgun was found inside the vehicle on the floor near the driver, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately confirm the deaths.

All outbound lanes were reopened at 7:25 a.m., police said.
