Negro Violence Chicago's Gold Coast - Man fatally shot near Clark and Division
A man was fatally shot in the Gold Coast neighborhood Wednesday night, police said.
The 26-year-old man was shot in the 1100 block of North Clark Street at 8:09 p.m., according to police and fire officials.
Witnesses said the man was part of a group on one side of Clark that was arguing with a group on the other side.
Despite traffic, the groups met in the middle of the street, at which point someone shot the man twice, according to Dennis Trelinski, who saw the shooting from his eighth-floor balcony half a block south of the crime scene.
Even with two gunshot wounds, the man continued to yell at the shooter from the asphalt, Trelinski said. The shooter, who had walked away, walked back into the street and then shot him several more times.
The shooter got in a vehicle and fled in an unknown direction, police said.
At least five evidence markers for bullet casings could be seen on the east side of Clark.
The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died, police said.
