Person shot during attempted robbery at Waukegan gas station by armed Negro

On June 1, 2016, officers from the Waukegan Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to a gas station at 12:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Grand Avenue for a shooting victim.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that two victims were at the gas station getting gas. While doing so, they were confronted by a male black suspect. The suspect is only described as being thin and having facial hair.

The suspect attempted to hit one of the victims with the firearm when the firearm discharged. The bullet struck the victim in the shoulder.  The other victim attempted to detain the suspect, but was then struck in the head with the firearm by the suspect.

The victim that was shot was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The second victim was treated and released on scene by paramedics.

The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot west bound on Grand Avenue.

Currently, the Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is treating this shooting as an attempted armed robbery. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Waukegan Police Department’s “Tip-Line” at 847-360-9001.
