Family and friends of a 14-year-old boy who drowned Friday at Waukegan Municipal Beach gathered at the site Tuesday to light candles and release balloons in his honor.

Gabriel Boose went missing while swimming with relatives in the channel south of the beach about 3:20 p.m. Friday, authorities said. His body was recovered after a search that lasted more than four hours.

Gabriel's mother, Loreal Serrano, said the family recently moved to Waukegan from Mount Prospect.

Serrano said her children begged to go to the beach Friday, so she made the trip with her boyfriend, children, nieces and nephews.
