The woman injured during a dispute after she complained to her neighbor about loud music coming from his apartment has died.
It happened at Twelfth Street Apartments in Mishawaka on Thursday, Aug. 25
Joann Newgent, 67, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries after police arrived at the complex and found her unconscious and beaten in her apartment, according to court documents released by the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
One of the Mishawaka Police Department officers who was in Newgent’s apartment said it appeared that she suffered some sort of blunt force trauma to the back of her head, according to the court documents.
Authorities believe Wilson struck her with parts of a coffee table.
Neighbors are remembering Newgent as a kind and down-to-earth woman.
Donald Wilson, 42, refused to come out of his apartment and the SWAT Team was called to complex. He surrendered hours later.
On Saturday, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office formally charged Wilson with Wilson’s murder, as well as a count of being a serious violent felon in possession of a handgun, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Wilson is being held without bond and remains in the custody of the St. Joseph County Jail.
His initial hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday.
