Cloverdale Indiana Police Officer Luke Brown shot by the BROWN MAN - The suspect was also wounded by the officer during the shootout

Indiana State Police say a Cloverdale police officer and another man have been injured in an exchange of gunfire near Greencastle.

The shooting took place shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday when officers arrived at a residence to investigate a theft at a Greencastle store a few minutes earlier. State Police say a man confronted the officers near the front door and fired a shotgun, striking Cloverdale officer Luke Brown in the chest.

State Police say Brown "returned fire, striking the suspect in the torso."

The 27-year-old Brown, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was taken to a Terre Haute hospital with what police said appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. Brown is a two-year veteran of the Cloverdale Police Department.

The Negro 48-year-old alleged suspect was being treated at an Indianapolis hospital.
