One held after fatal shooting / murder in Libertyville Illinois - as the cancer spreads

Police are investigating the death of a man found slumped over the wheel of a car in Libertyville as a homicide, officials said.

The man was discovered Friday night around 11:30 p.m. in the area of Milwaukee Avenue and Hollister Drive in Libertyville, the Lake County Major Crime Task Force said.

Libertyville firefighters and paramedics took the man, who had been shot, to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A passerby on the roadway called 911 after seeing the man slumped over the wheel of a dark-colored Volkswagen Jetta, said Christopher Covelli, a major crimes task force spokesman.

Covelli declined to say where the victim was shot, or whether the gunshots came from inside or outside the car.

Police have identified a person of interest who is currently in police custody in connection with the homicide, but no charges have been filed yet, said Covelli.

The identity of the man will be made public after an autopsy, scheduled for Sunday, and when his family has been notified.
