LOS ANGELES, CA - Veteran LAPD deputy chief William Scott, 52, will be named Tuesday as police chief of San Francisco, according to a published report.

William Scott, 52, has been head of the Los Angeles Police Department's South Bureau. San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee plans to announce Scott's hiring Tuesday, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Scott will succeed acting San Francisco police Chief Toney Chaplin.

Scott's longtime administrative experience figured into the decision, as well as his work in the LAPD's professional standards bureau dealing with police reform, the newspaper reported.
