Victor Rivera, of Elgin shot victim after offering to "console him" following the homosexual breakup with his faggot lover

A 33-year-old man who was upset about the breakup of a romantic relationship called and sent text messages seeking consolation to the man who later shot him, according to court documents.

The man who was shot May 27 gave officers the name of the man now charged with attempted murder, according to information released Monday by Elgin police. The shooting victim called the man even though he owed a drug debt to him, police said.

Victor Rivera, 23, of Elgin, was arrested about 5:15 p.m. Saturday in the area of Watch Street and Watch Court, police said Sunday. He is charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in the shooting.
