CHICAGO POLICE: MORE ROBBERIES REPORTED NEAR MILLENNIUM PARK BY FERAL NEGROES PICKING WHITE VICTIMS
WARNING TO CHICAGO TOURISTS & CITIZENS: STAY AWAY FROM MILLENNIUM PARK AND THE "CHICAGO BEAN" FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY
Police say in these incidents offenders approached people in cars that were either parked or stopped in traffic, reached in and punched them before taking cell phones from inside the car. Police say the offenders have also distracted their targets with a ruse of handing out fundraising fliers.
Police said both incidents occurred during daytime, one in the 0-100 block of Lower Wacker Drive on June 22 around 4:30 p.m. and the other in the 200-block of North Michigan Avenue on June 23 around 4:05 p.m.
Police describe the suspects as black males between 16 and 24 years old and between 5 ft. 6 in. and 6 ft. tall.
"I come and pick my girlfriend up at least twice a week, that's something to be concerned about," says Anna Barry.
"Crime never used to happen on Michigan Avenue. That's what everybody has the concept of I guess. But now that we hear these kind of things, it's bold," says Humair Iqbal, Uber driver.
This is the second warning police have issued for the downtown area near Millennium Park in June. On June 21 they issued an alert for two robberies in the 200-blocks of East Wacker Drive and East Randolph Street which occurred on June 14 and June 15.
The area around Millennium Park is known as one of the safest areas in the city, but residents say they've noticed an uptick in crime.
