Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke formally indicted in fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald with SIX COUNTS OF MURDER for fatally wounded ARMED SUSPECT - I guess OVERKILL is BAD - OVERCHARGING is GOOD

CHICAGO -- Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke has been formally indicted in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Van Dyke was indicted by a grand jury on six counts of first-degree murder and one count of official misconduct.

McDonald was shot 16 times in October 2014.

Cook County state's attorney Anita Alvarez filed one first degree murder charge against Van Dyke last month before the dashcam video of the shooting was released.

The Tribune cites court records showing an FBI agent testified before the grand jury before the indictment was handed down.

The indictment alleges that Van Dyke acted "without legal justification" in the McDonald shooting.

The misconduct charge alleges that he acted outside of his official capacity as a police officer.

Van Dyke is out of jail after posting bond on November 30th.  He’s set to appear in court again on Friday, where he is expected to plead not guilty.
