LOS ANGELES, CA - The union representing Los Angeles Police Department officers lashed out at Chief Charlie Beck today, linking his policies to a surge in crime and calling for hearings at City Hall on his anti-crime strategies.
The Los Angeles Police Protective League asked that the City Council’s Public Safety Committee “immediately hold public hearings to determine the effectiveness of Chief Beck’s current crime reducing efforts and what he proposes to do to reduce the dramatic rise in crime.”
Union officials said there are “dangerously low police patrol staffing levels that are endangering the residents, visitors, businesses and police officers in Los Angeles.”
The police union cited a 20.2 percent increase in violent crime and a 10.7 percent increase in property crime from 2014 to 2015.
