BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: One of the three inmates who escaped from a California jail last week has turned himself in, Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens says.
Bac Tien Duong, 43, was taken into custody in Santa Ana this morning. Authorities are still looking for the other two escapees. All three are considered dangerous.
Duong faces attempted murder charges and also has Vietnamese gang ties.
He and Hossein Nayeri, 37, and Jonathan Tieu, 20, cut through steel bars, made their way through plumbing tunnels and rappelled off a roof to break out of the maximum-security facility.A woman who taught English as a second language to inmates at a California jail is among ten people arrested in connection with the escape of three dangerous inmates, authorities said Thursday.
Nooshafarian Ravaghi, 44, is believed to have provided "credible planning tools" that helped the brazen Friday escape from the Orange County Central Men's Jail in Santa Ana, Orange County Sheriff's officials said.
Investigators are looking into how Hossein Nayeri, Jonathan Tieu and Bac Duong could have gotten their hands on cutting tools to get through thick metal for their escape. Ravaghi, a contractor who came in to the jail to teach ESL, became friendly with Nayeri, who attended her class. She teaches the same course at the Rancho Santiago Community College in Santa Ana. Ravaghi admitted to supplying the men maps to help their escape, though authorities believe she may also have supplied tools.
