UPDATE: Mike Tusken will serve as the Duluth Police Department’s interim chief - Brand New Duluth MN Mayor Emily Larson outlines process for hiring the vacant positions of Police Chief and Fire Chief = Not a bad looking Mayor they have!
UPDATE: Mike Tusken will serve as the Duluth Police Department’s interim chief until a permanent replacement is found, Mayor Emily Larson announced Thursday.
Tusken, a 23-year veteran of the force, has been the department’s deputy chief in charge of patrol operations for nearly a decade. Longtime Chief Gordon Ramsay left the city this week, starting his new job in the same role in Wichita, Kan., on Thursday.
Larson has estimated that it will take four to six months to fill the vacancy.

In her first official news conference as mayor, Larson outlined criteria for both jobs — which she described as “key positions in our community” — but said the process will likely continue through the spring.
“I’m more committed to getting the right candidate and more committed to doing this in partnership with the community than staying on a specific timeframe,” Larson said. “If it takes longer, I’m comfortable with that.”
