DIXMOOR IL - 78 YEAR OLD COLORED MAN HOLDING HIMSELF HOSTAGE AFTER RELEASING HIS 34 YEAR OLD "GIRLFRIEND" NAMED "ICE"

A feral Negro in his 70s remains holed up in a Dixmoor home after holding his "girlfriend" named Ice hostage overnight, authorities said.

A woman, who is the man's girlfriend, was not injured and he released her about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Dixmoor spokesman Michael Smith. She was taken to a hospital to be checked out.

The incident began about 6 p.m. Friday at a home near the intersection of West 142 Street and Robey Avenue in Dixmoor, said Smith.

The man, 78 and a veteran, is communicating with police by telephone but remains inside the home as of 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Smith said.

Cook County sheriff’s police are on the scene negotiating with him.

“They’re trying to get him out peacefully,’’ Smith said.

Smith said they were not sure if he is armed.

Nearby residents were evacuated.
