Tiny Hebron rocked by drug, weapons charges against village president John Jacobson

When voters in the rural town of Hebron elected John Jacobson as village president in 2013, they apparently were willing to live with his troubled history.

Just a few months before Election Day, Jacobson had been charged with felony possession of cocaine. Then he was fired from his maintenance job at McHenry County College on accusations that he viewed and sent pornography by email. He also had a pending drunken-driving case from 2011.

But now, in a community perhaps best known for its 1952 state high school basketball championship, new criminal charges against Jacobson have put him and the town in the public spotlight like nothing else since.


Jacobson, 68, was found unconscious in the bathroom of his home this month after a young woman he was with called 911 and told police he had been "drinking alcohol and smoking crack cocaine throughout the night," according to a police report. He now faces multiple criminal charges, including felonies, and residents are debating whether to start a petition drive to get him to resign.
