ISLAND LAKE ILLINOIS: 5 Armed Masked Negroes raided a home, tied up four occupants, stole marijuana and beat an 18-year-old with a bong, police said
Island Lake Illinois police are searching for five masked men who raided a home, tied up four occupants, stole marijuana and beat an 18-year-old with a glass pipe or bong, police said.
The five men, dressed in black, entered the home in the 900 block of Lexington Lane through an unlocked front door about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Island Lake Police Chief Anthony Sciarrone said. The masked men, armed with rifles, tied up the occupants, which included a 50-year-old woman, her 55-year-old husband, their 18-year-old son and a 22-year-old man who was not a relative, police said.
After tying up the occupants, the robbers ransacked a bedroom and stole a small amount of marijuana, according to Sciarrone, who said the robbers did not take all the marijuana in the home.
Before leaving, the robbers attacked the tied-up occupants, including hitting the 18-year-old with a glass pipe or bong, the chief said.
"They all had scrapes and bruises from being knocked around," he said.
The woman was able to free herself, but did not call police. Instead, a neighbor called police, Sciarrone said.
The chief said the residents were not cooperating with police.
"The first officer arrived on the scene and she locked the door," Sciarrone said. "These people are not talking to us."
An ambulance took the 18-year-old to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, police said. The other occupants were treated at the scene.
