ALABAMA - St. Clair County Correctional V'aires Davis, 24, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and promoting contraband within a correctional facility

SPRINGVILLE, Ala. — V'aires Davis, 24, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and promoting contraband within a correctional facility.

Davis, a correctional officer, was arrested when investigators determined he was attempting to smuggle contraband into the St. Clair Correctional Facility.

"Most correctional officers are committed to their profession in corrections and are dedicated to the ADOC values of professionalism, integrity and accountability," said Corrections Commissioner Jeff Dunn. "

"However, the small percentage of officers who elect to engage in corrupt conduct will be terminated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

After his arrest Davis resigned from his position and was transported to the St. Clair County Jail.

Davis had been with the Alabama Department of Corrections since June of 2015.
