Firewater Swallowing Drunkard Randy Allen Rinard, 38, of Twin Lake was arraigned Friday for operating while intoxicated third offense and resisting and opposing police

MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – A man who served two stints in prison and is suspected of third offense drunk driving got into a "brawl" with sheriff's deputies, damaging two cruisers and continuing to fight even after he was tased, according to a sheriff's official.

Randy Allen Rinard, 38, of Twin Lake was arraigned Friday for operating while intoxicated third offense and resisting and opposing police.

Rinard was sentenced in January 2015 as a third time habitual offender to a year in jail for resisting and opposing police. He had been released from prison in November 2014 after serving 17 months for unlawfully driving away a motor vehicle, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections web site. He also served three years in prison, from 2002-05, for resisting and opposing police and possession of marijuana, the web site shows.

Muskegon County Sheriff's Deputy David Paseka responded to a trespassing call around 12:30 a.m. Thursday on Holton Duck Lake Road, said Sheriff's Sgt. Patrick Herremans. While he was driving to the call, Paseka located the suspect and pulled him over, Herremans said.

The deputy had one handcuff on Rinard when he allegedly tried to pull away and Paseka took him down, Herremans said. Rinard also allegedly "got into it" with Sgt. Michael Herremans who had arrived to assist, said Sgt. Patrick Herremans. The Herremans are brothers.

Rinard also allegedly resisted Deputy Chris Herremans, a cousin of the sergeants, who also arrived to help, Sgt. Patrick Herremans said.

The officers were able to get the suspect into the back seat of Paseka's cruiser, but Rinard allegedly began banging his head against the cage protecting the rear door window, he said. So Rinard was transferred to Sgt. Michael Herremans' patrol car, he said.

While en route to jail, Rinard allegedly began kicking the car door, so Sgt. Michael Herremans pulled over to put leg irons on the suspect, he said. Rinard allegedly kicked the sergeant in the chest and so he was tased, Sgt. Patrick Herremans said. He allegedly continued trying to kick Paseka even after he was tased, he said.

After the second the second cruiser was allegedly damaged by Rinard, a jail transport van was called to the scene to remove Rinard to the Muskegon County Jail, the sergeant said.

"It sounds like it was a pretty good brawl he had with all of them," he said.
