Off-duty deputy Philip Borja assigned to the Los Angeles Sheriff Department Norwalk station killed in fiery motorcycle vs vehicle crash

CORONA, CA - An off-duty Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Deputy was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Corona early Saturday morning, the Corona Police Department said in a news release.

According to police, authorities responded to the area of Hidden Valley east of the I-15 Freeway around 4:25 a.m.

Two motorcycles were traveling eastbound on Hidden Valley from the I-15 freeway in the first lane of traffic when a white Ford Fusion exiting the Stater Brothers shopping center parking lot made a left turn onto westbound Hidden Valley, entering the path of travel of the two motorcycles, police said. A motorcycle driven by 25-year-old Philip Borja, of Upland, struck the driver's side of the Ford Fusion.

The second motorcyclist took evasive action to avoid colliding with the Fusion and was forced to drive eastbound in the westbound lanes of travel on Hidden Valley.

According to police, both motorcycles ended up striking a Volkswagen Beetle. As a result of this collision, Borja's motorcycle and the Beetle both caught on fire in the westbound lanes of Hidden Valley.
