WINNSBORO, LA Police Sgt. Derrick Mingo killed in motor vehicle accident

WINNSBORO, La. (AP) — A Winnsboro Police officer has been killed in a car crash on Louisiana 4.

Police Chief George Wilhite tells KNOE-TV (http://bit.ly/1Zmr0XF ) the crash happened about 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

He says Sgt. Derrick Mingo, who has been with the department for five years, was headed to help another officer pursuing a drunk driver when his car left the road and hit a tree.

Wilhite says Mingo was extremely dedicated to his job and willing to do any task assigned. Prior to working with the Winnsboro Police Department, Mingo worked for the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office for 12 years.
