Illegal Beaner Ruben Chacon Rodriguez busted with 75 pounds of pot after his beater car breaks down at the U.S. Border
A Mexican man whose car broke down near the border was busted in New Mexico with 75 pounds of pot hidden in secret compartments of his red Volkswagen bug, according to U.S. Border Patrol.
Ruben Chacon Rodriguez ended up in hot water after his car stalled out 50 feet from the primary inspection lane at an immigration checkpoint in Las Cruces.
Smoke was pouring from the rear of the car when Rodriguez hopped out to push the broken-down bug to the secondary inspection area.
Agents came over to help — but once they started checking out the car, they had a dope find.
After a police dog got a whiff of the hidden herb, agents X-rayed the car and found bundles of marijuana wrapped in brown packing tape and secreted away in aftermarket compartments in the floor.
The street value of the find was more than $60,000, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.
Both Rodriguez and the reefer were turned over to the DEA — and now the accused marijuana mover is behind bars on suspicion of drug smuggling, according to the El Paso Times.
