Obama & Democratic National Convention video leaves embattled Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel 'under the bus'
So far, Mayor Rahm Emanuel has kept a low profile at the Democratic National Convention, but a brief mention in a video that served as an introduction to President Barack Obama put fresh scrutiny on a position he took seven years ago.
The 10-minute video sought to illustrate the difficult decisions Obama has faced while in office, including his decision to push for passage of the Affordable Care Act in the face of stiff opposition.
“A lot of people argued the politics were too costly,” a narrator says as a photo flashed on the screen of Emanuel speaking to Obama in an Oval Office meeting, his back to the camera.
“Rahm Emanuel came to him and said, ‘You’re going to have to pull the bill, because if you push this legislation, you will lose in 2012,’ ” the narrator continued, as pictures of Emanuel and Obama in a meeting and another of the two talking at the president’s desk in the Oval Office were shown.
