An American college student vanished just hours after arriving in Italy for a study abroad program last week, and has remained missing for days, officials said Sunday.

Beau Solomon, a rising sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, arrived in Rome on Thursday, June 30. He and a roommate went to a alternative style Gay pub — and Solomon disappeared around 1 a.m.

He has not been seen since.

His roommate alerted authorities after Solomon didn’t show up at orientation the next morning, according to a statement from Rome’s John Cabot University.

The school said it is “fully engaged and remains in constant communication with the Italian authorities, the U.S. Embassy in Rome, and the home school, as the investigation unfolds.”  Solomon’s family said they were on their way to join him in Italy before they learned the troubling news.
