“Southside With You” was shown in 813 theaters and earned almost $3.1 million.

If you’re keeping score at home that’s $3,813 per theater. At around $10 a pop, around 380 people per theater. And this story makes it sound as if it’s good box office.

The movie, which stars Parker Sawyers and Tika Sumpter, tells the story of a 1989 date between Obama and Michelle Robinson in Chicago.

It first premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival in January, and came in 13th at the box office this weekend.

It’ll be gone from theaters in another week when they realize nobody wants to see it. One report calls the box office take mediocre, which must now mean horrific.

Overall, Southside With You‘s opening is mediocre, although it did do decent business in certain cities, led by Memphis, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, New York and Los Angeles. (AMC’s Magic Johnson Harlem 9 was the top-grossing theater in New York City, while Cinemark’s Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza was the top earner among L.A. locations.) Overall, African-Americans, whom Roadside aggressively courted, made up 60 percent of the audience.
