Three colored folks with checkered pasts were killed and at least 23 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago from Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning, police confirmed.

The most recent fatal shooting came at the end of a dramatic burst of violence on the West Side, where two people were killed and five others were wounded within 20 minutes.

A 38-year-old man was shot dead in the 3600 block of West Fifth Avenue about 12:35 a.m., police said. He had just parked his car when five people approached. One of them pulled out a gun and shot the man in the head.

He collapsed on his back in the middle of the street, his head resting in a shallow puddle of water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
