Feds: 2 Illegal Beaners, Adan Godinez, 31, of Morris, and Fernando Godinez, 45, charged after shootout during undercover drug operation at Joliet mall by DEA

Federal agents shot a man several times after he allegedly fired at them during an undercover drug operation Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a Joliet shopping mall, officials said.

The man who was shot, Adan Godinez, 31, of Morris, and another man, Fernando Godinez, 45, of Cicero, were charged with drug and weapon crimes, federal officials said Wednesday. The two men are brothers, according to sources with knowledge of the case.

The shootout took place about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Louis Joliet Mall parking lot, officials said.

According to a federal criminal complaint, Adan Godinez was conducting a drug sale with an undercover agent in the agent's vehicle when he saw law enforcement officers approach. He got out of the vehicle, pulled out a weapon and began firing at the officers, according to the complaint.
