Armed with BB Gun, Feral Negro Brothers Rob 3 Young WHITE Mt. Greenwood South Siders, Chicago Prosecutors Say
COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A suburban man charged with stealing $10 and a cell phone from three young South Siders was held on $90,000 bail Tuesday.
Prosecutors said Tavious Thurman, 19, and his brother, 17, were armed with a BB gun when they attacked three boys — ages 9, 15 and 16 — in a Mount Greenwood alley Monday night.
The boys were walking through the alley in the 11000 block of South Kedzie Avenue when they stepped aside to let a car pass about 8 p.m., according to Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti, who spoke during a bond hearing Tuesday.
Thurman, who'd been driving the 2000 Nissan Maxima, slammed on the brakes, while his brother, who was in the front passenger seat, pulled out a BB gun, prosecutors said.
At that point, the 9-year-old victim pulled out his pockets to show he didn't have anything on him, Antonietti said.
Thurman and his brother were able to take a $10 bill and a Samsung Galaxy phone from the 15- and 16-year-old victims, according to prosecutors.
As the brothers drove off, the victims called 911 and reported the car's license plate number, Antonietti said. Police arrested Thurman and his brother a few blocks away 15 minutes later.
Thurman, of the 3700 block of West 119th Street in suburban Alsip, is charged with three counts of armed robbery.
He is currently on probation for a theft in Winnebago County, Antonietti said. Thurman is also on juvenile parole for burglary and battery convictions in the same county. Earlier this year, he was convicted of trespassing in Cook County, Antonietti added.
According to authorities, the 17-year-old brother has been charged as a juvenile. Police do not release names or mugshots for juveniles.
Police previously said the three boys in the alley were in a car, but prosecutors said Tuesday they were walking.
