A man who died Monday in Summit at the site of a Deep Tunnel stormwater reservoir had been struck by a vehicle that was part of a snowplowing operation, the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Tuesday.

The man, a carpenter craft worker, died about 2 p.m. at the McCook Reservoir project, part of the Deep Tunnel system, said Bob Kula, a spokesman for the man's employer, Kiewit Corp. of Omaha. Kiewit is the primary contractor on the $121 million main tunnel and gate portion of the $638 million project.

A news release Tuesday from OSHA said it was investigating the death of the man, who was identified as Robert Ellison, 55, of far northwest suburban Spring Grove, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The medical examiner's office Tuesday afternoon said Ellison died of multiple injuries caused by being struck with a forklift. The office ruled that his death was accidental.

In its news release, OSHA said Ellison was "struck and killed by a rough-terrain vehicle during snowplowing operations" in a parking lot of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District site at 7700 Canal Bank Road in the southwest suburb. Though the medical examiner's office described it as a forklift, OSHA spokesman Scott Allen said the "huge" multi-use vehicle had a snow-removal attachment at the time of the accident.
