HOLCOMB, Kansas - Insatiable Nympho science teacher and head cheerleading coach at Holcomb High School Katie Rufener charged with unlawful sexual relations with an underage lucky male student

HOLCOMB, Kansas – Charges have been filed against a former Holcomb High School teacher for three counts of sexual relations with a student.

The teacher who is charged is no longer employed in Kansas.

Katie Rufener faces three counts of unlawful sexual relations with a student.

“The most important thing in our district is the safety of our students and so that is our top priority,” said Holcomb Superintendent Jean Rush.

It’s a case that’s prompting shock in the small community of Holcomb.

Rufener was arrested and charged with having consensual relations with an 18-year-old student at the school.

She was a science teacher and head cheerleading coach at Holcomb High before she resigned from the district last spring.

“The district received a letter of resignation in March of 2015 and it was accepted by the board at that time,” Rush said.

Although Ms. Rufener resigned earlier in the spring and all staff positions have since been filled, school district officials say they’re moving forward with student safety in mind.

“Our expectation is that as employees, that we have healthy and safe relationships for all of our students,” Rush said.

The Finney County Sheriff says they’ve charged Rufener for three reported incidents between March 19 and April 10, all at Rufener’s Garden City home.

She has since moved to Ohio, but Rufener voluntarily appeared in Finney County District Court on October 1.

She was released on an “own recognizance bond,” meaning she did not have to pay a bond to be released.

The school district says it will continue to cooperate with any investigation.

“We will cooperate completely with law enforcement for any information that is asked of us,” Rush said.

Holcomb district officials say they started the year with all their vacant positions filled.

Rufener had been a teacher at the district since the 2012-2013 school year.
