Former prison chaplain Eugene Klein already has admitted to conspiring with convicted Chicago Outfit hitman Frank Calabrese Sr. to recover a supposedly rare 18th century Stradivarius violin said to be hidden in the mobster's vacation home.

Now, in asking for the maximum sentence of five years in prison, federal prosecutors have revealed for the first time that the longtime Roman Catholic priest allegedly did something far more dangerous than simply pass messages about a violin.

During his meetings with Calabrese, Klein also revealed secret information about the location of the mobster's brother, Nicholas Calabrese, who has been in a federal witness protection program after his stunning decision to cooperate with the feds brought about the landmark Operation Family Secrets probe, prosecutors said Monday in a court filing.

The filing provided no further information about how or when Klein allegedly revealed those details but said he did so "knowing that Nicholas Calabrese had cooperated against his brother and ... was in grave danger." The filing stated more details were given to probation department officials for their report on Klein's recommended sentencing, but that report is routinely filed under seal by court order.
