BREAKING NEWS: Hostage Situation at Cook County jail
Two Cook County Jail detainees are holding another inmate hostage inside a maximum security division at the jail, officials said.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s office, the two detainees covered the floor of Division 10 with soapy water and obscured the fixed cameras within the tier before ripping the cameras down entirely.
There are 16 other detainees in the tier, one of whom is being held hostage with what appears to be a sharp object, police said.
The Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team is working to resolve the situation “peacefully.”
No injuries were immediately reported.
