East St. Louis has a new township supervisor after the previous one pleaded guilty to a wire fraud charge this month.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/2gmwwJ3 ) that former St. Clair County Board member Tommy Dancy will take over for Oliver Hamilton.

Hamilton pleaded guilty to allegations that he spent more than $40,000 of township money on personal purchases, including trips to Las Vegas and gifts for political allies between 2012 and 2016. He’ll be sentenced in March.

The township board accepted Hamilton’s resignation on Thursday. He’s also resigned from the St. Clair County Board.

Dancy is 66 years old. He headed East St. Louis’ Department of Regulatory Affairs until he was fired in 2011. The newspaper couldn’t reach Dancy for comment.
