The officer was not injured in the attack, which happened about 4:45 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of East 89th Street in the city’s West Chesterfield neighborhood, police said.
Two attackers walked up to the off-duty officer and fired shots at the officer’s vehicle before trying to take it, police said.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired, and the two assailants fled east on 89th but were arrested.
A gun was recovered from the scene, police said.
Thomas is scheduled to appear in court again Thursday.
