Shootings across the city have killed at least three men and wounded 13 other people since Wednesday morning, Chicago police said.
Two of the fatal shootings happened in Logan Square, the neighborhood's first homicides all year.
A 32-year-old man was killed in front of his home in the 2900 block of North Sacramento Avenue. He was outside about 1:45 a.m. Thursday when a white SUV pulled up and someone inside fired, hitting him in the chest. The man, identified as Mario Enrique Guzman by family, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and pronounced dead at 2:33 a.m, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
At 6 p.m. Wednesday, a man was killed and another was wounded on the southern end of the neighborhood. The two men, ages 25 and 22, were in a car in the 3100 block of West Wabansia Avenue when someone on foot shot them and fled. The 25-year-old, identified as Luis Gonzalez of the 1600 block of North Albany Avenue, was shot in the head and neck and died at Stroger Hospital at 6:35 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office. The 22-year-old was shot in the leg, lower back and shoulder. He went to Stroger Hospital, and his condition was stabilized.
The other fatal shooting was in Back of the Yards about 5:10 p.m. A 22-year-old man, identified as Alejandro Velazquez-Perez, of the 4100 block of South St. Louis Avenue, was shot in the 1700 block of West 46th Street and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:50 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
In nonfatal shootings:
• Most recently, a 26-year-old man was wounded in a shooting about 6:15 a.m. Thursday in the Little Village neighborhood, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a police spokeswoman.
The man was in the 2400 block of South St. Louis Avenue when he was shot in the upper left chest and arm. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
• About 12:30 a.m., a 32-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Little Village neighborhood, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.
The man was in the 3100 block of West Cermak Road when he was shot in the left hand and left ankle. He was listed in good condition at St. Anthony Hospital, Zala said. Early Thursday, police stretched yellow crime tape around three squad cars, enclosing a portion of the intersection of Cermak Road and Kedzie Avenue where several shell casings lay.
No other information about the shooting was immediately available.
